A Classical, English or Antique desk for your office

Who doesn't dream of a gorgeous and classic, English or antique desk to work at? A desk is often the focal point of an office and quickly draws attention. Historically, a desk exudes status; for instance, the director would usually work at a luxurious and stunning desk, while the employees worked at a more austere desk or work table.

Because of our wide range, there is always a desk that fits your interior, budget and style. For instance, we offer antique and old desks that we restore ourselves, meaning you benefit from a favourable price-quality ratio. In addition, we also offer new desks.

Types of classical, antique and English desks

Below is a summary of the various types of classical, English and antique desks that exist. Due to the extensive knowledge we have built up over the years, we have a wide range of desks in our collection.

The Partnerdesk

The partner desk, also known as a double desk, is a desk that can be used to work at from two sides. A partner desk is often somewhat larger in size and features drawers and cupboards on both sides.

pedestal desk

The English desk, also known as an English desk or Chesterfield desk, is a desk intended for one person to work at. An English desk is somewhat smaller in size and is therefore easy to place in smaller spaces. Due to its size, it does not take up as much room as a partner's desk or a writing table, yet still allows you to work comfortably.

The desk

The writing table is a table-model desk which features a leather worktop. A writing table has traditionally been used largely as a conference table or meeting table and is therefore suitable for multiple people to work at simultaneously, and for this reason is often also the largest size you can get.

A writing desk has plenty of legroom because you don't have cupboards, only drawers in the tabletop, making it easy for multiple people to use it.

The corner desk

A corner desk is a desk that is intended to be placed freestanding in a room or against a wall. A corner desk often consists of an L-shaped desk with a 90-degree angle. The advantage of a corner desk is that it is multifunctional. For example, you can place the corner desk against a wall so that it takes up little space, or you can choose to place it freestanding or with one side against the wall, which partially shields the workspace and makes it extremely suitable if you want to use it in an office and do not want everything to be immediately visible.

Kidney-shaped or oval desk

In addition, there are English, Antique and Classical desks in shapes that you do not often come across. For example, there are desks in a kidney-shaped or oval design. The rounded edges ensure that the desk looks less pompous in the room.

What materials are used for a Classical, English or Antique desk?

The Classical, English and Antique desks from our large collection have a luxury finish and are made from high-quality materials including brass, bronze, mahogany, cherry wood, walnut, oak and leather. Because the desks are crafted using these high-quality materials, they have a long lifespan and you will be able to enjoy a wonderful place to work for years to come!

Maintenance tips for a Classic, Antique or English desk

To extend the lifespan of your Classic, Antique or English desk, it is important that you maintain your desk regularly. Below you will find a few maintenance tips to help ensure that your desk lasts as long as possible:

  • It is important that you treat the leather desktop regularly with leather grease, which keeps it supple and long-lasting, and prevents cracking.
  • Do not place hot objects on the desk as this can cause rings in the wood or leather.
  • Take care with sharp objects or pens as these may cause damage to the desk.
  • Position the desk out of direct sunlight as much as possible to prevent the wood from discolouring.
  • Check if the wood is still in good condition; if the wood feels dry or if deep scratches have appeared in the lacquer layer, it is advisable to treat the desk with furniture wax once. This is a coloured wax that ensures scratches are less visible. It is best to apply the wax with an old cloth and then let it soak into the wood for a short while. Once the wax has been well absorbed by the wood, you should then buff the remaining beeswax out of the wood using a clean microfiber cloth. It is advisable to wax the wood once a year to extend the lifespan of your Classic, Antique or English desk as much as possible.
  • Keep your desk clean; we often see that food debris or grains of sand can cause damage to the desk.
  • Please be careful when vacuuming your room not to scrape against the desk with your vacuum cleaner, as this causes paint damage at the bottom.
