The classic and English-style bookcases in our range are made from luxurious, high-quality materials such as oak, mahogany or teak, and are often modular, so you can easily arrange them in your home. The shelves in bookcases are usually height-adjustable, and bookcases may also be fitted with a step so that you can easily reach the top shelf of your bookcase.
Due to its size, a Classic or English-style bookcase is often an elegant centrepiece featuring beautiful details. These bookcases are meticulously crafted and lend your interior a traditional and classic look.

Traditionally, carousel bookcases are often round, but nowadays they are frequently made square as this allows you to fit more books into the carousel.
Book carousels are fitted with a rotating mechanism that allows the top section to turn 360 degrees, so you can reach books from all sides of the carousel.

Classic and English bookcases possess a certain elegance that makes them timeless; you can see the craftsmanship reflected in the many details such as wood carvings, moulded panels, columns, sweeping lines, the staggered shapes and dovetail joints, and the way the bookcase is constructed.
Classic and English bookcases are crafted from high-quality materials and, thanks to the use of various types of wood, have a warm, dark colour, making them real mood-setters with a stately appearance.
These bookcases are often characterised by elegant shapes and lines, and a symmetrical, balanced design. The fittings and hardware are frequently made from luxurious materials with a warm colour, such as brass or bronze.

Traditionally, English or classical bookcases are often made from durable types of wood – these are woods with a high degree of hardness, which means they last a long time; furthermore, the bookcases are often crafted using traditional methods.
Some of the most common types of wood used for classic or English bookcases are:
In addition to these types of wood, Classic and English bookcases are also painted or stained in various ways, creating a wide range of possibilities. In addition, marquetry is often used; this involves gluing pieces of wood veneer, cut to size, into an attractive pattern and then finishing them with a clear varnish.
See the example images below showing the different types of wood and finishes.

To decide which Classic or English bookcase is best suited to you, factors such as size, colour and design are important.
The size must be suitable for the space; ask yourself whether the cupboard should span the entire width of the wall or whether some space is needed alongside it for other items.
If you’re unsure about the size of the cupboard, you can take a piece of cardboard, cut it to the cupboard’s dimensions and then lay it on the floor; this will quickly give you an idea of how the cupboard will look in the room.
When choosing the right colour, it is important to consider your preferences; you could opt for a classic English bookcase in the same colour as your floor or other furniture, or you could choose a completely different colour that contrasts beautifully with the rest of the room. For example, people often opt for a light-coloured floor combined with dark furniture to create a balanced look.
Finally, it is important to consider which style best suits your needs; for example, if you want to store a lot of books, you are best off choosing a Classic or English-style open bookcase. If you prefer certain items not to be visible to everyone, you could opt for a Classic or English closed bookcase, or a combination that features both open and closed sections.
Depending on your requirements and the space you have available, our range offers a wide selection of high-quality cupboards, suitable for any room and available in a variety of designs.
Looking after a classic or English bookcase is very important. Depending on the type of wood and the finish, there are a number of options for looking after your bookcase as well as possible.
Is your cupboard looking dull or has it lost its shine? If so, you can treat it with furniture oil to restore its shine. It’s best to apply the oil to the cupboard, leave it to soak in for a short while, and then wipe off any excess with a dry microfibre cloth.
If the paintwork has been damaged, you can often polish it with furniture wax or antique wax; this darkens the damaged areas, making them less visible.
It is also important to position the cupboard out of direct sunlight as much as possible to prevent discolouration.
